About Yourself: I am a 40 year old father of 2 great children. Chelsea is 2 and Hunter is 4. My wife is great and is pretty patient with me when I take 5 hours on a Sunday to "work" on the tank. She's not really into the fish but I think she may be coming around - she loves to see the kids excited! My little ones love the fish and are great helpers. By day I am an operations manager for a fortune 100 company managing customer service operator working from home. We provide a full array of services for various clients. It's a stressful job but when I come home and spend a little time with my fish, the stress of the day goes away for awhile - heck I don't even hear my Blackberry which in itself is a true gift.
Fish Kept: Protomelas Taeniolatus (Red Empress) 1 Male 1 Female, Yellow Fin Borleyi (1 Male 1 Female), Dimidochromis Kiwinge (1 Male 1 Female), Nimbochromis Venustus - (Male) 1, Labidochromis Caeruleus - Yellow Lab or Electric Yellow Cichlid - 3 (male), Lodotropheus Sprengerae - Rusty - 1 (Male), Aulonocara sp. stuartgranti maleri . - Sunshine Peacock - 1 (male), Pseudotropheus socolofi - powder blue cichlid - 1 (male), Maylandia callainos- Cobalt Blue - 1 (Male), Neolamprologus brichardi- Brichardi Lyretail Cichlid - 2 (Male), Pseudotropheus zebra OB morph - OB Zebra - orange/black (2) - white/black (lots of blue coming in) 1 (male), Male Aulonocara species crossed with an OB female mbuna - OB Peacock blue/orange- 2 (male), Gephyrochromis acei - Acei - 1 (male), Tropheus ??? - blue/purple body - burnt orange fins - 1 (male??) Aulonacara ??? - ??? - 2 (male/female???), Maylandia estherae formerly pseudotropheus zebra -red zebra - 1 to young to tell sex, Aulonocara stuartgranti (Rubescens) Ruby Red Peacock - 1 (male) 1 (female) 1 (fry), Dragons Blood Peacock 1 (male)
Corals/Plants: Plastic Plants - Various
Tank Size: 75 gallons
Advice: Start with the tank you really want - if you have space for 90 Gallon and that's what you want - Go For It. Moving from a 10 to a 30 to a 55 and so on will cost you more than just getting what you want from the beginning. Take your time selecting fish and be patient if you go with cichlids. To me the best part of the hobby is watching them mature and change colors over time. It's amazing how a brown dull young peacock can be so beautiful when it matures. Change your filters regularly, do routine water changes, feed them a good quality food and you will have happy and healthy fish.

Quote: If your ever near Galion, Ohio visit KC's Aquaworld for the best combination of knowledge and selection of cichlids that I've found in Ohio!!!
About Yourself: More photos coming soon.... please visit again!
Fish Kept: Currently: 2 pleco. 2 featherfin synodontis. 1 male sunshine peacock, 2 female. 1 male O.B. peacock 1 female, I SRONGLY ADVISE only keep 1 auloncara male. The Alpha continually displays aggression to affirm dominance. Often the Beta male will never reach his full color potential as a result of this pressure. 1 male Cyrtocara Moori, 1 female. 1 Male Burundi Frontosa, 1 unsexed. 1 Black Calvus. 1 Yellow Calvus. 1 male Scienchromis ahli, 1 female. 1 Male labidochromis, 1 female. 1 female protomelus stevini (Taiwan reef) 1 Red top Fulleborni. and 6 Giant Danios. The Giant Danios do wonderfully in a cichlid tank. They provide a contrast between predator/ prey if you will. Even if that is not the case. Also, through my observations I believe the skiddish by nature danios allow the cichlids to relax. It's almost as if the cichlids key off of their response to danger. They also provide action at the top off the tank creating balanced levels. Cichlids mid to bottom and synodontis residing at the bottom.
Corals/Plants: 5 crinum thianum. 1 Anubias flazzeli. 1 Anubias Barteri. 3 Java ferns. 2 Java Windelov. approximately 5 cups of java moss. 1 potted crypt wendtii. 5 bunches of Hornwort. All low light, high PH tolerant plants. Also, the varieties chosen are unlikely to be eaten by all but 1 of my cichlids. I do keep 1 herbivour, the fulleorini, who will at times nibble, but very little or no damage is incurred. The introduction of an abundance of Hornwort has clarified my water significantly. Of course, as with anything, read up on it prior to introducing it to your tank
Tank Size: 90 gallons
Advice: I agree with everyone that states: "Get the largest tank one can afford without getting divorced." Learn as much as one can. It only enriches the experience. identification, behavioral, and dietary traits. Aquascaping is a key factor in reducing stress resulting from conspecific hostility. Also, selecting specimines from varying sub-species will avoid this potential problem. For example: Pick your favorite auloncara, pundamilla, haplochrome, Protomealus etc..

Rated #550: Freshwater Fish - Ctenopoma Acutirostre - Leopard Ctenopoma Stocking In 210 Gallons Tank

Rated #550: Freshwater Fish - Ctenopoma Acutirostre - Leopard Ctenopoma Stocking In 210 Gallons Tank - The Leopard Ctenopoma, also known as the Spotted Climbing Perch, is part of the Bush Fish group of the family Anabantidae. These "climbing fish" are patient predators often remaining still among plants waiting for food to pass by. The Leopard Ctenopoma is one of the more colorful species of the Ctenopoma genus.
The Leopard Ctenopoma requires a densely planted aquarium with roots and driftwood in which to hide. Somewhat aggressive, this fish should be kept with other fish of similar size.

Ctenopoma acutirostre is a bubble-nest builder. Slightly acidic (pH 6.5-7.0), very soft (dH 2-4), and warm water (79-82°F) is necessary for breeding. The fry should be fed live food such as brine shrimp.

Carnivores, Leopard Ctenopomas will eat live, frozen, and prepared foods such as krill or ocean plankton, as well as floating pellet food.
