About Yourself:
I got into the fish hobby because my job was unnecessarily stressful and I would worry about it on my days off...Basically, caring for the fish was a distraction. After I got started with a 20 gallon tower I was addicted. I had a bought an 110 gallon upgrade within 4 months. I love it! I have been a hobbyist for a total of 5 months now (currently 6/2010). Google is my #1 resource when researching fish or plants for my tanks.
Fish Kept:
Black Ghost Knife (1), African Brown Knife (1), Polyterus Senegalus (1), Emerald Green Cory Cat (4), Pictus Cat (1), African Dwarf Frog (1), Giant Danio (4), Bolivian Ram (1), German Blue Ram (1), Gold Ram (1), Gold Albino Bushy Nose Pleco (1), Gold Mystery Snail (1), Blue Mystery Snail (1), Black Mystery Snail (1).
Corals/Plants:
Amazon Sword, Java Fern, Java Moss, Micro Sword, Dwarf Baby Tears, Ozelot Sword and Ludwigia Peruensis
Tank Size:
110 gallons
Advice:
Take your time and make sure that your plants, fish, etc are all compatible. It's a lot easier to use what you have naturally, than it is to try and chemically alter needed conditions.

About Yourself:
My girlfriend and I got into having small tanks after moving into a condo where a single large tank was not an option, we now have two 25 gallon, three 5 gallon, and two 10 gallon tanks spread around where we breed various shrimp and platy, and keep two community tanks.
Fish Kept:
Assorted Platy, Dwarf Otocinclus, Black Phantom Tetra, Red Wag Platy, Hi Fin Platy, Ghost Glass Cat
Corals/Plants:
Pearl Weed, Various Amazon swords, Monte Carlo, Salvinia minima (water spangles), Ludwigia Repens, Java moss, Java Fern (windelov), marimo moss balls, unknown repens.
Tank Size:
25 gallons
Advice:
Well planted, cycled, and living tanks with light bioload from fish and heavy growth of plants can really make for a healthier tank. Quarantine any additions before adding them of course!Any plants from the store I rinse gently in tap water and leave in a quarantine tank for at least a few days to make sure nothing is growing on them and I didn't get any hitchhikers. Fish are also kept for a week in the quarantine tank before being admitted to the community tank.
Description:
Our 25 gallon community tank.
The yellow tint is tannin from the cholla wood and leaves, and the light is softer and more shaded because the water spangles are thick. Our fish seem to prefer the shaded areas, and most of our plants don't require heavy light to grow, so we let the tank remain somewhat lower light level than average for their comfort. If you want to avoid this tint, just boil the wood and leaves you want to add to the tank for a longer period, we usually only boil wood and leaves for 10 minutes for small pieces since we like the tint.

Fish Kept:
Clown Knife Fish, Plecos, Angelfish, Cats, Soon to have South and Central American Cichlids with the Knife Fish.
Corals/Plants:
Just cheap freshwater plans from your LFS.
Tank Size:
40 gallons
Advice:
Research. Research. Research.
Description:
This is a 40 gallon breeder tank. A clown knife fish resides in the tank and soon it will be joined by a few cichlids. There are 6 live plants flourishing in the tank and I created realistic hiding spots out of flagstone rock. The tank is heated to about 78 degrees and is filtered using a Fluval 205 canister filter. It looks great!
