Photo Caption: This was my first set up in my 25 gallon from the beginning of 2014. I experimented with a type of red sand that can be found locally. Everything grew exceptionally well, however the sand was so nutrient rich that running a UV sterilizer with it was necessary.

Advice: Just experiment by doing things yourself, it is possible to have an awesome tank without throwing down big bucks on it.
